About the Conference

Each year, the SSTUWA hosts the Early Childhood Educator Conference that brings early childhood educators within our union together. Join our 2023 event and be inspired by a range of great speakers and workshop presenters. The one-day event will provide members with the opportunity to learn, listen, share ideas and to refresh their minds. We are confident that this experience will help our attendees reignite your passion.

Keynote Speaker: The Hon Dr Anne Aly (MP)

We welcome The Hon Dr Anne Aly, Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education and Federal Minister for Youth, to open the conference. Dr Aly is an Australian politician, political scholar, academic and counter-terrorism expert and will share her story of reigniting her passion as well as providing an overview of her current work. Anne is committed to working with all levels of government to make our families, children and communities safe.

Featured Speaker: Tammy-Anne Caldwell - Above and Beyond Education

        The Brain-Science 101 of Wellbeing, Teaching & Learning

Tammy-Anne Caldwell from Above and Beyond Education and a TEDx speaker in 2023 will talk about why a brain-based holistic approach to wellbeing, teaching and learning makes sense. Learn the basics of a young child’s learning brain and how to engage students with positive emotions through music, movement, curiosity, play, choice, drawing, art and many more. Reignite your students’ passion for learning success.  A follow-up workshop with Tammy-Anne will also be available and will provide more time to look at some practical strategies to take back to your classroom.

Speed Dating:

The afternoon will conclude with some ‘speed dating’. Four mini lectures will be on offer as you move from speaker to speaker for 12 mins at a time. A great opportunity to listen, learn and ask questions of SSTUWA Senior Officers and staff around important hot industrial topics.

Trade Union Training leave - Schools

Members in schools and TAFE colleges are eligible for five days of paid leave per year to attend trade union training (TUT).

To comply with TUT leave requirements applicants must:

• Submit applications to DoE/principal four weeks prior to the event.
• Provide DoE/principal with a printed copy of the course program attached to this form.
• Be nominated by the SSTUWA. See “nominated audience” on the attached course program.

The school will not be charged for the salary of the person attending trade union training - this is covered by the DoE.  However, if a relief teacher is required, this is funded through the school's one line budget.

For school administration
When processing TUT leave applications:

• Ensure staff attending training have selected TUT Leave in HRMIS.
• Project code 1471 will be generated within the payment system.
