About the course

The SSTUWA, in partnership with TLN in Melbourne, are pleased to offer this online learning opportunity.

Incorporating Indigenous perspectives effectively into the curriculum is beneficial to all students as well as First Nations students. This presentation will support you to engage effectively with First Nations pedagogical approaches. The focus will be on the use of Yarning Circles; the presenter has developed a structured approach to allow for yarning circles as a pedagogical approach in a formal classroom and the 8 ways pedagogy.  The 8 ways pedagogy evolved from a research project involving educators, university staff and local Aboriginal communities. It is ‘a culturally safe point of entry for teachers to begin engaging with Aboriginal knowledge and cross-cultural dialogue in the community’.

This course will increase your understanding and knowledge and provide practical examples for the classroom. You will also be given some ideas of where to find additional professional reading and teaching resources to support your practice.

Delivery method: Live online event

The event will be five hours in duration and consist of live delivery of content at the specified time by a presenter and a host. You will also have an opportunity to interact with other participants and engage with the presenter online. Completing this course will contribute to five hours of professional learning and a certificate will be provided at the end of the session.

TLN is a Melbourne based, not-for-profit professional development provider supported by the Australian Education Union Victoria Branch and the Independent Education Union Victoria/Tasmania Branch. SSTUWA will be your major source of communication before the online event. Prior to the live event, SSTUWA will email you detailed instructions about how to access the online training space. TLN will then provide immediate telephone support just before the event begins on the day, and during the training if required.
