Each year, elected women delegates from around the country attend the AEU Federal Women’s Conference. This is a fantastic opportunity for women members to hear from a range of guest speakers, become more aware of professional and industrial matters and to build a network within the education community across Australia.
This year, the conference is being held in Canberra in early September. The SSTUWA will be sending a delegation of active women to participate in this event. Women from every sector of our membership are encouraged to apply.
Previous delegates have greatly valued the experience of attending. SSTUWA member Ashleigh Webb said: “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend this event as a representative of the SSTUWA. The two-day program was full of inspiring women speaking about social justice and power to a room packed with unionist women ready to tackle the change.”
Fellow union member and conference attendee Joey Stuart said: “Thank you to the SSTUWA for an amazing, eye-opening opportunity. What a place to be in, so many passionate strong women working together from unions across Australia for us!”
Date: Sunday 3 September - Tuesday 5 September.
Time: Arrive into Canberra on Sunday; all day Monday, including evening event; Tuesday until 3pm.
Cost: Flights, accommodation and allowances will be covered. Childcare is available at the delegates' accommodation or the venue.
Target audience: Women members, with preference given to those who have not previously attended an AEU Federal event.
Venue: AEU ACT Branch, 71 Leichhardt St, Kingston ACT.

The next National School Reform Agreement (NSRA) will be absolutely crucial to the future of public education in Australia.
The Federal Minister for Education Jason Clare has formed an Expert Panel to review the next NRSA and that panel is now seeking input from teachers, parents and students.
Nobody knows better than educators what reform and funding is needed to address a range of issues in public education.
It is therefore crucial that as many educators as possible let the government review know what is required. While we know everyone is busy, we are asking every schools member to participate in the survey if they possibly can and to encourage non-members and parents to do the same.
The link to the minister’s announcement of the review can be read here.
