The SSTUWA has written to all Managing Directors of the five TAFE Colleges and cc’d in the Department of Training, Workforce and Development (DTWD) in response to members raising work health and safety concerns regarding COVID-19 with the union.
We have requested copies of the COVID-19 Safety Plans for each college and potential risk assessments regarding the associated workplace hazards and COVID-19.
The SSTUWA is of the view that an employer not only has obligations under the Public Health Order but also has a duty under the OSH Act 1984. This duty requires employers to properly assess occupational hazards from COVID-19 and, if needed, implement controls to supplement the Health Orders that apply to TAFE.

We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work. We wish to pay respect to their Elders - past, present and future - and acknowledge the important role all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within Australia. We stand in solidarity.
