On Wednesday the union met with the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD), Government Sector Labour Relations (GSLR) and college representatives to discuss the government’s new position on wages and a number of other items concerning conditions.
The union indicated that it was disappointed that the government had not negotiated the changes to its wages policy directly with the union, that the $2,500 amount needed to be incorporated into the wage structure, that overall the wage increases were not keeping up with inflation, and that our members were still angry.
The employers indicated that, as the government had made two changes to their wages policy in the past eight months, the government would be unlikely to move any further on their wages policy.
The government and college representatives left to discuss a numbers of other matters, including the number of AIL classifications and a process for increasing part-time permanent fractions for those lecturers who have worked at a higher fraction for a considerable period of time.
GSLR indicated that the union will receive a third offer from government – we are unsure when this will be received but government representatives indicated that they were keen to have a third offer finalised as a matter of urgency.
Once the third offer is received, the union’s TAFE Committee will meet to determine the union’s response.
We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work. We wish to pay respect to their Elders - past, present and future - and acknowledge the important role all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within Australia. We stand in solidarity.
