The SSTUWA has received a second formal offer from the Department. Executive met yesterday to consider the terms of the offer and will reconvene on Saturday 9 April.

Members will be kept informed of any decisions via eNews and social media.

The AEU Federal president has written to the Opposition Leader in relation to the Morrison Government’s $560m cut to public school funding, which was announced in last week’s federal budget.

The AEU is seeking a commitment from Labor to the restoration of the total funding.

The SSTUWA will be seeking discussions with all WA Labor federal MPs and asking for their support to restore the funding that has been cut. We urge all members to raise this issue with their local Labor federal MP and with federal Labor candidates.

Work Health and Safety Courses in 2022

We are pleased to announce that the new WHS Act 2020 for Western Australia was proclaimed into law on Thursday 31 March.

The SSTUWA Education and Training Centre is pleased to be hosting Unity Training to conduct Education Specific Five-Day Introductory Courses for Health and Safety Representatives commencing in Term 2. The course will include information around the new legislation.

New DoE HSR’s are eligible to register for this course if they meet the following criteria:

1. You are the officially elected HS Representative at your school.
2. You have registered with the DoE OSH Team as the elected representative for your school by completing an Election Notification Form: https://ikon.education.wa.edu.au/-/elect-a-health-and-safety-representative/
3. You have NOT previously completed the Five-Day Introductory OSH/WHS Course.
4. If you are from a regional area, you have written permission from DoE Central Office OSH Team to attend the course in Perth.
