IDAHOT marks the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder and is about showing your support for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse (SSAIGD) people in your school community. This year’s IDAHOT focus is on how we can #bebetter allies.
It’s a really simple yet meaningful way to show LGBTI+ students, staff and families that they are an important and valued part of your school community.
- Your school or worksite can join hundreds around Australia (and the world) in celebrating IDAHOT by:
- Inviting people to wear the same colour for the day
- Raising money for an LGBTIQ charity
- Running an IDAHOT event at your school, like a BBQ, lunchtime concert
- Running a project for your school to #bebetter, like a pledge or language blitz
- Sharing your photos using the hashtag #bebetter and #idahot
- Giving the opportunity for students to learn about IDAHOT in class
- Acknowledging IDAHOT day during morning announcements
