A major federal government review into how we train our teachers was released earlier this year.

NAIDOC Week runs from 3 to 10 July and will once again celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is marked every year from 27 May – 3 June. It is an opportunity for Australians to learn and reflect upon our shared histories, culture and achievements and our part to play in achieving reconciliation in Australia.

We (have passed) the nation’s annual ritual of celebrating the arrivals, while not formally recognising the ancient peoples who were dispossessed.

The following is the transcript of a speech given by 2021 SSTUWA Reconciliation in Action (RIA) award winner Clare Stack (pictured right), of Broome Senior High School, at November State Council last year. The RIA award celebrates the work of SSTUWA members who are making positive contributions towards reconciliation.

We, the undersigned experts in education, are teachers, education support professionals, principals, early childhood educators, lecturers, associate professors and professors. We are First Nations people who collectively embody a millennia of minutes, thousands of hours, and hundreds of decades of long, hard work in the Australian education industry.

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It runs from 4-11 July.
